One of my favorite musicals is Les Miserables. It is for this reason that I chose to write this post about the premiere of Les Mis. The very first world premiere took place in September of 1980 at the Palais des Sports in Paris. Of course, this first version of the musical was in French. After many successful performances, there was a demand to make an English adaptation. The English version first premiered in 1985 at the Barbican Arts Centre in London. Since this performance, the musical was running for over 30 years and there has been more than 11,000 performances. It has even been estimated that since the very first performance of Les mis, there have been around 45,000 showings. In 2016, I had the amazing opportunity to watch Les Miserables on Broadway in New York. It was absolutely amazing and its a moment that I will remember forever.
